Istiklal Avenue, located between Tünel and Taksim Square in Beyoglu district of Istanbul, is one of the touristic streets where you can experience Istanbul with its architectural structures, popular shopping venues and historical views. Istiklal Avenue is one of the locations where you can have a pleasant time with St. Antuan Catholic Church, Santa Maria Draperis Church, Historical Galatasaray High School and many historical arcades and apartments. 
 
The shaping of Istiklal Avenue begins after the Byzantine period. During the years when the Byzantine Empire ruled, there were Genoa Colony, various ethnic groups, monasteries and churches in the region surrounded by walls. In the Ottoman period, with the increasing confidence in the region, it began to fit inside the walls. it was even called the center of trade for a period.
 
Istiklal Avenue is one of the most popular places in the city with the splendor of the buildings and shops belonging to the first years of our Republic. So much so that the attire of the people walking on this street in those years is enviable and enviable even today. There are many entertainment venues, restaurants, patisseries and sales shops. In 1990, the street was closed to traffic and the nostalgic tram started running and today it is the most touristic street in Istanbul.
