BLUE MOSQUE

The Blue Mosque is one of the most important places to see. It was named Blue Mosque because of the blue tiles used in its decorations. Sultan Ahmet I, who built the mosque, built this mosque to make his signature in Istanbul with an imposing mosque that will be seen from all over Istanbul.

It is the only Ottoman mosque with 6 minarets. It is adorned with more than 20 thousand Iznik tiles. These tiles are the reason why foreigners call this mosque "Blue Mosque".

Differences of Blue Mosque from other Mosques

If you ask why the Blue Mosque is different from other mosques, we can say that this mosque is not just a religious building and it contains many social areas. The soup kitchen, baths, schools, schools and hospital rooms, which were very valuable in the Ottoman Period, are within this mosque. The Blue Mosque, which serves more than one purpose, also attracts attention in terms of meeting the needs of the people. Of course, some areas are not active at the moment.
