TOPKAPI PALACE

Topkapi Palace is one of the most important Ottoman monuments in Istanbul. You can have the opportunity to visit many parts of Ottoman state life in the complex structure, which was used as the administrative center of the state and the residence of the rulers. In addition, the priceless Kaşıkçı Diamond, weighing 86 carats, is also exhibited in the Topkapı Palace Museum.

After conquering Istanbul, Mehmed the Conqueror actually built the first palace in Beyazıt, in the area under the buildings of Istanbul University. However, later, between 1467 and 1469, Mehmed the Conqueror ordered the construction of the Topkapi Palace where it is now located and made it the residence of the dynasty. So Topkapı Palace was not the first dynastic palace in Istanbul. The old palace could not survive until today because it was wooden. This palace, which was started to be built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, was added to by almost all the sultans who came after him for almost 500 years. The last addition to the palace was built by Sultan Abdülmecid.

In 1472, when the palace was built, the Tiled Pavilion, which is now part of the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, was also built. The area between the Tiled Pavilion and the museum building before it was enlarged in 1903 and 1908 is the area thought to be the 'Javelin Field' of the palace. In other words, we can say that there is also an area where war games were held in Topkapı Palace. This is also important among the interesting information about Topkapı Palace.
